Once an expansive wetland, enormous mounds hundreds of feet tall now dwarf a landscape dotted by murky turquoise ponds and vast craters. Due to our ever increasing demand for resources, we have grown accustomed to such sights. We are altering the natural world for our benefit while rarely considering the consequences. In response to the troubling metamorphosis that is occurring before us, I created this small invented landscape that portrays what our future may hold. The piece is composed of found natural and synthetic materials that have become intermeshed and indistinguishable from one another, alluding to the far reaching effects of our indiscriminate consumption. The arrangements, forms, and patterns utilized in the composition are influenced by landscapes that have been heavily shaped by human activities like mining and farming. Speaking to the complex relationship that exists between humans and the environment, this sculpture is just a glimpse of what is to come.
