Newfoundland fissure (5 panels)

Newfoundland fissure (5 panels)

description

Newfoundland Fissure is a 5 panel piece painted in acrylic on linen. The Newfoundland series is part of my larger North Atlantic Rim Project: a 20 year plan to draw the rock edges of the North Atlantic coast- this is year 11. A vital part of my work is the connection to landscape. These are environments in flux, constantly changing through the influence of the ocean, vital natural landscapes that also sustain living communities. These environments balance a need to fulfill economic and touristic demands with an equally valid recognition of the intrinsic worth of the landscapes from a historical, sociological and emotional perspective. These environments are at present threatened by contemporary climate change and are suffering increasing erosion. These are working landscapes, formerly predominated by the fishing industry that are now redefining themselves, in this fragile period of change it is vital that a sustainable future is found.
