Reflection Within

Reflection Within

description

Growing up around the Nevada California line, but now living and working in Massachusetts, I am struggling with a constant battle between relief and guilt in light of ongoing fires. "Reflection Within" is an effort to tackle these dichotomous feelings and take an honest look at our role in the fires. As an environmental educator I contend with ways to encourage climate action. On a personal basis we can try to recycle etc., but it is major companies who are producing the most effect on our climate. Yet, we have often have a complicit role in this cycle as well. Through my work I grapple with my place in this cycle, along with my feelings of helplessness as I see the overcast sky here and see the direct link to my family and friends on the west coast. Along with the obvious connection to reflecting through the use of mirror shards, the creation process was important in this piece as I used a recycled Amazon box to create the bark. Combining my art and environmental fields, "Reflection Within" calls for personal, but more importantly corporate, accountability. Medium: Sculpture (Recycled cardboard, mirror shards, and tulle) Size: 8 in x 16 in x 8 in
