The net of curiostiy
I hand-knotted a fishing net and used it to catch rocks in the desert of Al, Azraq, Jordan, where I am working on a project to rehabilitate the oasis that once defined this area. Al Azraq was formerly one of the most important stopping points for bird migration, in addition to being a habitat for many other animals. After 30 years of overpumping of the underground aquifer the oasis is gone and with it the fish and other sources of food and livelihood. The blue of the net speaks to the water we hope to return to the area, and the net itself is a paradox representing the potential return of the water and the devastation of today.
